Key Features
This page summarizes the main capabilities of Certify for Business Central.
Certify API Connection
- Secure connection to the Certify API using an API key and API secret.
- Configurable Base URL (defaults to the Certify v1 API endpoint).
- A cut-off date so older expense reports are ignored.
- Optional debug mode that surfaces the raw API responses for troubleshooting.
See API Connection Setup.
Expense Report Import
- Download expense reports from Certify, page by page (filtered by the cut-off date, not by Certify approval status).
- Drill into a report to load its individual expense lines on demand.
- A list page showing report name, status, dates, total, employee, and department.
- An internal Report Status (Waiting / Settled) that tracks which reports have already been turned into journal entries.
Category-to-G/L Mapping
- Map each Certify expense category to a Business Central G/L account.
- Mapping changes are written back to Certify through the API.
- A fallback G/L account catches any line whose category is not yet mapped.
See Expense Category to G/L Mapping.
Dimension Mapping
- Map Certify General Ledger Dimensions (GLDs) — labels and values — to Business Central dimensions and dimension values.
- A dedicated Department Dimension setting maps the Certify department onto a Business Central dimension.
- A "Harvest Dimensions" action that scans existing reports and auto-creates the dimensions, dimension values, and mappings it finds.
See Dimension Mapping.
Credit Card / Company-Paid Handling
- Maintain a list of corporate cards (card name + last digits).
- Map each card to its own balancing account (G/L or bank) so company-paid charges hit a clearing or card-liability account.
- Reimbursable amounts are posted separately to the employee or vendor.
See Credit Card Mapping and Reimbursements and Company-Paid.
Currency and Tax
- Post in the original transaction currency, or use Certify's converted amounts.
- Automatic foreign-currency conversion to your local currency using Business Central exchange rates when needed.
- A default tax area code applied when an expense line carries VAT, PST, or HST amounts.
See Currency and Tax Handling.
Flexible Reimbursement Posting
- Post reimbursements per expense line, or aggregate all reimbursable amounts on a report into a single employee/vendor payment line.
- Choose whether the payee is a Business Central Employee or Vendor.
Extensibility
The journal-generation logic raises integration events (for example, before and after inserting expense and reimbursement journal lines) so partners can extend posting behavior without modifying the app.
