Overview
Certify for Business Central connects your Emburse Certify (Emburse Professional) expense management system to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, so that approved expense reports can be posted into your general ledger without manual re-keying.
What the App Does
Employees capture receipts, enter expenses, and submit expense reports in Certify. Managers and accounting approve and process those reports. This app then:
- Connects to the Certify API using your account's key and secret.
- Downloads expense reports and their individual expense lines.
- Lets you map Certify categories, dimensions, and corporate cards to Business Central accounting values.
- Generates general journal lines from the expense data, ready for you to review and post.
Business Central remains the system of record for the general ledger, vendor and employee ledgers, payments, and financial reporting. Certify remains the system where expenses are captured, approved, and processed. The app is the bridge that moves clean, approved, accounting-ready data from one to the other.

Posting Model
This app uses the general journal posting model. Each expense line becomes a journal line posted to the mapped expense G/L account, balanced against an expense balancing account (for company-paid items) or against an employee/vendor account (for reimbursable items). This corresponds to the "General Journal" / hybrid integration pattern commonly used with Business Central.
For company-paid corporate card expenses, the balancing account is taken from the card mapping (a clearing or bank account). For reimbursable expenses, a separate reimbursement line credits the employee or vendor so the amount can be paid from Business Central.
See G/L Integration Overview for the full accounting flow.
Who Should Use This App
- Finance teams that have standardized on Certify/Emburse for expense capture and approval.
- Organizations that want expenses posted as general journal entries in Business Central.
- Companies that need category-to-G/L mapping, dimension coding, and separate handling of reimbursable versus company-paid (corporate card) expenses.
