Mobile App Connection
Simple Agent Designer includes a companion mobile app that will let you submit workloads to Business Central from your phone or tablet — taking photos, uploading files, or entering descriptions on the go for your AI agents to process.
Status: Not yet released (coming soon). The mobile app is not available for download yet. When you open the Connect Mobile App page, Business Central shows the notification: "The Mobile App for Simple Agent Designer awaits release, check www.hougaard.com for updated schedule." The connection page and the settings described below are already in place, so you can prepare your workload types now; the descriptions here are forward-looking until the app ships.
Setting Up the Mobile Connection
Opening the Connection Page
The Connect Mobile App page is not available in Tell Me and is not on the Setup page. Open it from the Simple Agent Designer menu (the AI Accountant menu): choose the Configure Mobile App action.
Generating the QR Code
- Open the Connect Mobile App page via the menu's Configure Mobile App action
- The page displays a QR code and the API URL for your Business Central environment
- Open the Simple Agent Designer mobile app on your device (once released)
- Scan the QR code with the mobile app
The QR code encodes the full API endpoint URL for your specific tenant, environment, and company. This is all the mobile app needs to connect.
What the QR Code Contains
The QR code encodes a URL in this format:
https://api.businesscentral.dynamics.com/v2.0/{TenantId}/{Environment}/api/hougaard/simpleagentdesigner/v2.0/companies({CompanyId})/
This URL is also displayed as text below the QR code for reference.
Configuring Workload Types for Mobile
Not all workload types are available in the mobile app. You control which types appear by configuring them on the Workload Type card:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Available in Mobile App | Set to Yes to make this workload type visible in the mobile app |
| Take Photo | Set to Yes to enable the camera for this workload type |
| Upload File | Set to Yes to allow file selection from the device |
| Get Text Instructions | Set to Yes to show text instructions that guide the user on what to enter |
Example Configuration
For an "Expense Receipt" workload type:
- Available in Mobile App: Yes
- Take Photo: Yes (user photographs the receipt)
- Upload File: Yes (user can also select a saved image)
- Get Text Instructions: Yes (shows guidance like "Take a clear photo of the entire receipt")
Using the Mobile App
Submitting Work
- Open the mobile app (already configured via QR code)
- Select a workload type from the available list
- Depending on the type configuration:
- Take a photo using your device camera
- Select a file from your device
- Enter a text description
- Add a title for the work
- Submit
The submitted work arrives in Business Central as an inbound request. Depending on the configuration, it may be processed automatically or wait for manual processing from the Inbound Request List.
What Happens After Submission
- The mobile app sends the data to the Business Central API
- An entry appears in the Inbound Request List
- If automatic processing was requested, the workload is created and processed immediately
- Otherwise, you can process it manually from the Inbound Request List
Requirements
- A Business Central Online (SaaS) environment (the API URL format is for cloud deployments)
- The Simple Agent Designer extension installed and configured
- At least one workload type with Available in Mobile App set to Yes
- Network connectivity between the mobile device and Business Central
- The mobile app itself, once released (see the status note above)
Tips and Best Practices
- Configure a small number of focused workload types for mobile use — keep it simple for on-the-go work
- Enable Get Text Instructions to provide clear guidance on what the user should capture or enter
- Test the connection by submitting a simple text workload first
- Use descriptive workload type names since they appear as choices in the mobile app
- Check the Inbound Request List regularly if you are not using automatic processing
