Support

This page describes how to get help with Erik's ToolBox for Business Central. Whether you are experiencing a technical issue, have questions about licensing, or need guidance on using a feature, the resources described here will help you find the answers you need.

Self-Help Resources

Before contacting support, you may be able to resolve your issue using the resources available to you directly within ToolBox and this documentation.

Documentation

This documentation set covers all features, configuration options, and common workflows in Erik's ToolBox. Use the navigation to find the topic relevant to your question. The Common Issues page addresses the most frequently encountered problems and provides step-by-step solutions.

ToolBox Setup Page

The ToolBox Setup page provides a centralized view of your configuration. If you are experiencing unexpected behavior, reviewing the setup page can help you identify misconfigured settings. Check the following areas:

  • License registration status
  • AI provider configuration on the AI Providers page (endpoint, access key, model, ToolBox Agent toggle)
  • Symbol download status
  • User access levels and permissions

For a detailed walkthrough of the setup options, see the Setup Overview page.

Audit Trail

The Audit Trail feature logs user actions performed within ToolBox. If you need to understand what happened before an issue occurred, the audit trail provides a chronological record of events. This can be particularly helpful for:

  • Identifying when a configuration change was made
  • Tracking which user performed a specific action
  • Understanding the sequence of events leading to an error
  • Reviewing code execution history

About ToolBox Page

The About ToolBox page displays important version and system information, including:

  • Your current ToolBox version number
  • App IDs for the ToolBox app (fe7b0b6a-e183-4606-882d-6adff0ce9401) and the Compiler app (de0ad312-13dc-48bc-9aa4-eec46e388ee0)
  • Publisher information (hougaard.com)
  • Environment details

This information is useful for verifying your installation and is often needed when contacting support.

Registration Page

The Registration page shows the current status of your ToolBox license. If you are experiencing issues related to licensing or activation, this page will tell you whether your license is active, expired, or not yet registered. See the Registration page for more details.

Business Central Event Log

For system-level issues that may not be specific to ToolBox, the Business Central Event Log can provide additional diagnostic information. This log captures errors and warnings from the Business Central platform itself and can help identify issues with:

  • Extension installation and publishing
  • Server-side errors
  • Permission and authentication failures
  • Database connectivity problems

Before Contacting Support

If the self-help resources do not resolve your issue, prepare the following information before reaching out. Providing complete and accurate details helps the support team diagnose your problem more quickly.

Step 1: Check the Common Issues Page

Review the Common Issues page to see if your problem has a known solution. Many frequently encountered issues are documented there with step-by-step resolution instructions.

Step 2: Note the Exact Error Message

Record the complete error message text, including any error codes or line numbers. If the error appears in a dialog box, copy the full text. If the error appears in the console, note the entire output. Exact error messages are critical for efficient troubleshooting.

Step 3: Document the Steps to Reproduce

Write down the exact sequence of actions that leads to the issue. Include:

  1. What page or feature you were using
  2. What action you performed (clicked a button, ran code, downloaded symbols, etc.)
  3. What input you provided (if applicable)
  4. At which step the error occurred

Step 4: Check Your ToolBox Version

Open the About ToolBox page and note the version number. The current version is 3.0.0.0, with build numbers ranging from 3.0.0.301 to 3.0.0.310. The exact build number helps the support team identify whether a known fix is available.

Step 5: Check Your Business Central Version

Note your Business Central version number and deployment type. You can find this information in the Business Central Help and Support page. The deployment type (SaaS or On-Premises) is important because certain features and configurations differ between the two.

Step 6: Review the Audit Trail

Check the ToolBox Audit Trail for any entries related to your issue. The audit trail may contain information about failed operations, configuration changes, or other events that preceded the problem.

Useful Diagnostic Information Summary

When troubleshooting or preparing a support request, gather the following diagnostic information:

  1. ToolBox Version -- Open the About ToolBox page and note the full version string (e.g., 3.0.0.310).
  2. License Status -- Open the Registration page and check whether the license is active, expired, or unregistered.
  3. Symbol Status -- Check whether symbols have been downloaded and when the last refresh occurred. Outdated symbols can cause IntelliSense and compilation issues.
  4. AI Provider Configuration -- If the issue involves the agents, verify the endpoint, access key, model, and ToolBox Agent toggle on the AI Providers page, and that Allow HttpClient Requests is enabled for the AL AI Services extension.
  5. Job Queue Status -- If the issue involves scheduled execution, check the Job Queue Entries page for the status of relevant entries.
  6. User Access Level -- Confirm the affected user's access level (Standard, Extended, or GodMode) in the ToolBox Users.
  7. Audit Trail Entries -- Review recent audit trail entries for any events related to the issue.
  8. Business Central Event Log -- Check for any platform-level errors or warnings that may be related.
