Applying Library Indicators
This guide explains how to apply indicators from the library to your financial reports and what happens during the application process.
Overview
Applying a library indicator means:
- Copying the library configuration to your indicator
- Creating filter records from library filters
- Setting up the indicator with pre-defined settings
Methods of Application
Method 1: From Indicator Card
The most common way to apply library indicators:
- Open your Row Definition
- Select a line with Totaling Type = Indicator
- Open the Define Indicator page (lookup on Totaling, or assist-edit on Indicator Defined)
- Click the Select from library action
- Browse the library entries on the Select Indicator from Library page
- Select the desired entry
- Click OK
Method 2: During Field Selection
The app can suggest a library entry while you configure manually, when the Method is Sum and the field you pick is a FlowField:
- On the Define Indicator page, set Method = Sum and click assist-edit on Field Name
- Select a FlowField (for example Customer → Balance (LCY))
- If a library entry with the same table name and field name exists, you'll see:
"We have a SumField in the Indicator library for this field, do you want to use that instead?"
- Click Yes to apply the library configuration
- Click No to continue manual configuration
No prompt appears for other methods or for normal (non-FlowField) fields.
What Gets Applied
When you apply a library indicator:
Configuration Applied
| Setting | Source | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Table | Library's Sum Field Table | Resolved by table name or caption in the current environment; the table number and caption are set on the indicator |
| Field | Library's Sum Field Name | Resolved by field name or caption in that table; the field number and caption are set on the indicator |
The numbers stored in the library are not used; if the table or field cannot be resolved by name, nothing is applied.
Filters Applied
For each library filter:
- Existing indicator filters are deleted
- New filters are created based on library filters:
- Field is matched by name in the target table (unmatched fields are skipped)
- Filter Type is copied directly
- Filter value is copied directly into the Filter column; the Date Formula stays blank
- A Static filter with a blank value removes the filter on that field (it does not filter for blank)
Not Changed
- Method: Remains as previously set (you should set to Sum for SumField types)
- Test settings: Preserved from previous configuration
Step-by-Step Example
Scenario
Applying a "Customer Balance" library indicator:
Library Entry
ID: Customer.Balance (LCY)
Name: Balance (LCY)
Sum Field Table: Customer
Sum Field Name: Balance (LCY)
Sum Field Table No.: 18
Sum Field Field No.: 59
Library Filters
Filter 1:
ID: Customer.Balance (LCY)
Field: Blocked
Type: Static
Value: ' ' (a single space filters for non-blocked customers; an empty value would remove the filter)
Before Application
Indicator Card:
Method: Sum
Table: (empty)
Field: (empty)
Filters: (none)
After Application
Indicator Card:
Method: Sum (unchanged)
Table: Customer
Field: Balance (LCY)
Filters:
- Field: Blocked
- Filter Type: Static
- Filter: ' '
Customizing After Application
Adding More Filters
After applying a library indicator:
- You can add additional filters
- Navigate to the Filters section
- Add new filter records
Modifying Applied Filters
Applied filters can be changed:
- Open the filter record
- Modify the value or type
- Changes apply to this indicator only
Changing the Method
If the library indicator doesn't match your need:
- Change the Method field
- Library entries are designed for Sum, but you can use others
Selection Dialog
Library Selection Page
When you click "Select from library", the Select Indicator from Library page shows:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | Table name and entry name, shown as Table Name->Name (for example Customer->Balance (LCY)) |
| Table | Table containing the field to sum |
| Field | Name of the field to sum |
The page has a Filters action that opens the read-only Filters on Indicator page for the selected entry. If the library is empty when the page opens, it asks whether to download the preset indicators from GitHub.
Selecting an Entry
- Use filters or search to find entries
- Click on the desired entry
- Click OK or press Enter
- The indicator is configured
Canceling
Click Cancel or press Escape to cancel without applying.
Best Practices
Before Applying
- Review the library entry: Ensure it matches your need
- Check the filters: View the library filters that will be applied
- Set the Method: Ensure Method is set appropriately (usually Sum)
After Applying
- Review applied filters: Verify they make sense for your use case
- Test the indicator: Use the Test feature to verify results
- Add custom filters: Supplement with additional filters if needed
When to Customize vs. Use Library
Use Library As-Is When:
- The library indicator matches your exact need
- Standard filtering is sufficient
- You want consistency with other users
Customize After Applying When:
- You need additional filters
- Date filtering needs adjustment
- Dimension filtering should be added
Troubleshooting
"Field Not Found" During Application
Cause: The table or field name in the library matches neither the name nor the caption in your environment.
Solutions:
- Verify the table exists in your environment
- Check if field names are localized differently
- Apply manually instead
Filters Not Created
Cause: Field names in library filters don't match target table fields.
Solutions:
- Check field name spelling in library filters
- Verify the target table structure
- Add filters manually after applying
Wrong Results After Application
Causes:
- Library filters don't fit your use case
- Method is set incorrectly
- Table/field doesn't contain expected data
Solutions:
- Review and modify applied filters
- Change the Method if needed
- Verify data exists in the source table
No Library Entries Available
Cause: Library hasn't been imported.
Solution:
- Open Indicator Library
- Click Import
- Wait for import to complete
- Try again
Library Indicator vs. Manual Configuration
| Aspect | Library | Manual |
|---|---|---|
| Setup Time | Seconds | Minutes |
| Customization | After application | Full control |
| Consistency | Standardized | Variable |
| Learning Curve | Low | Higher |
Recommendation
Start with library indicators when available, then customize as needed. This provides a solid foundation while allowing flexibility.
