Post-Install Activation

After installing the SharePoint Connector, you need to activate your license for production use. This page explains the activation process and license registration.

Activation Overview

When Activation is Required

Environment Activation Required
SaaS Sandbox No -- the license check is bypassed only when IsSaaS() AND IsSandbox() are both true
SaaS Production Yes -- registration key required
On-Premises (any) Yes -- registration key required (no sandbox bypass on on-prem)
Development Contact publisher for developer licensing

What Activation Does

Activation:

  • Validates your license for production use
  • Removes any trial limitations
  • Enables full functionality
  • Registers your installation with the publisher

Obtaining a Registration Key

Contact the Publisher

To get a registration key:

  1. Visit https://www.hougaard.com/product/sharepoint-connector/
  2. Purchase a license
  3. Receive your registration key via email

Information Needed

When requesting a license, provide:

Information Description
Company Name Your organization name
BC Environment Production, Sandbox, or On-Premises
BC Version Your Business Central version
Contact Info Email for license delivery

Entering the Registration Key

Step 1: Open the Registration Page

  1. Open the SharePoint Setup page and choose the License/Register action (the registration page is not searchable directly)
  2. The registration page (object name "Register SPC EFQ", page 70319513) opens with the caption "hougaard.com"

Step 2: Enter the Registration Key

  1. Locate the "Registration Key" field
  2. Enter the key exactly as provided in your receipt email
  3. The key is validated automatically via the hougaard.com license server using the "License Management EFQ" codeunit (codeunit 70319495)
  4. A confirmation message appears: "Thank you for registering the SharePoint Connector, all functionality is now enabled."

Step 3: Verify Activation

After entering the key:

  1. The page shows "License valid until" with the expiration date
  2. All features should be available
  3. Trial/demo warnings should disappear

Activation Troubleshooting

Invalid Registration Key

Issue Possible Cause Solution
Key rejected Typo in key Re-enter carefully
Key rejected Wrong environment Verify you're in the correct environment
Key rejected Key already used Contact publisher at sales@hougaard.com
Key rejected Expired key Request a new key from publisher
"License key cannot be used" Server-side rejection Check the reason provided in the error message
Cannot contact license checker Network issue Ensure outbound HTTPS to check.hougaardlicense.com is allowed

License Not Activating

If activation doesn't work:

  1. Verify you're in the correct Business Central environment
  2. Check that the key matches your purchased license
  3. Ensure you have admin permissions
  4. Contact publisher support at support@hougaard.com

Environment Mismatch

The registration key is validated against your tenant ID and environment name:

  • Ensure you're entering the key in the correct tenant
  • SaaS Sandbox environments do not require a key; on-premises installations always require one, even for evaluation
  • Contact publisher if you need to change environments

License Management

Viewing License Status

To check your current license status:

  1. Open the SharePoint Setup page and choose the License/Register action to open the registration page (caption "hougaard.com")
  2. If registered, it shows the "License valid until" date
  3. The "License Management EFQ" codeunit manages license state

License Renewal

If your license has a renewal term:

  1. Monitor expiration dates -- check the "License valid until" date on the registration page (License/Register action in SharePoint Setup) and plan renewal before the expiration date
  2. Contact publisher before expiration
  3. Enter new registration key when received (use "Change License" action if already registered)
  4. Old configurations are preserved

Transferring Licenses

If you need to move your license:

  • Contact the publisher for transfer assistance
  • Provide old and new environment details
  • License transfers may require verification

Multi-Company Activation

Single vs. Multi-Company Licenses

License Type Coverage
Single Company One company in one environment
Multi-Company All companies in one environment
Enterprise Multiple environments (contact publisher)

Activating for Multiple Companies

Depending on your license:

  • The registration may apply to all companies automatically
  • You may need to enter the code in each company
  • Check your license terms for specifics

Sandbox and Trial Usage

Sandbox Behavior

SaaS Sandbox environments (both IsSaaS() and IsSandbox() true):

  • Work without a registration key (the license check is bypassed in code)
  • Have full functionality for testing
  • The "trial mode" message shown on the About page appears on any unregistered install; on SaaS Sandbox it does not restrict functionality
  • Cannot be used for production work

On-premises sandbox-style installs do not bypass the license check -- they require a registration key just like production.

Welcome Page

On an installation that has not been registered yet, the first time a user opens the SharePoint Setup page a Welcome to SharePoint Connector page appears. It gives a short overview of the connector and asks for optional contact details (name, company, country, email). You can fill it in or choose to skip it. The page is shown once per user, so other users still see it on their first visit.

  • The page needs Allow HttpClient Requests enabled for the app in Extension Management. If it is not, the connector offers to open Extension Management for you.
  • Once a registration key has been entered, the welcome page is no longer shown to anyone.

Converting Trial to Production

If you evaluated in sandbox:

  1. Purchase a production license
  2. Install the app in production
  3. Enter the registration key on the "Register SPC EFQ" page
  4. Configure settings (can copy from sandbox)

Best Practices

Safeguarding Your License

  • Keep your registration key secure
  • Document which environments are licensed
  • Track renewal dates
  • Maintain contact with the publisher
