Report Sets

A report set is a named collection of reports — for example all customer-facing sales documents — that share one visual style, plus a common pool of fonts and images. Report sets let you design one look and apply it to every document with the AI, instead of styling each report by hand.

Why Report Sets

Most companies want their quotes, order confirmations, invoices, credit memos, and reminders to look identical: same logo, fonts, colors, header, and footer. A report set captures that look once as a skill (a visual-style description) and replays it onto every report in the set.

Accessing Report Sets

From the Simple Object Designer main menu, open Report Layouts > Report Layout Sets. The Report Sets list opens; open a set to see the Report Set card.

Report sets are shared across all companies in the environment.

The Report Set Card

Header Fields

Field Description
Set ID Unique identifier of the report set
Description What the report set contains — also used as the layout name when Apply Skill creates new layouts, so don't leave it blank
Active Whether the report set is active

The Reports Subpage (Members)

Each line is one report in the set:

Column Description
Report No. The report's object number
Report Name The report's name (read-only)
Function A label describing the report's role in the set (e.g. "Sales Invoice")
Layout The custom layout on this report that the set's visual skill is learned from and applied to. Leave blank to let Apply Skill create one named after the set

Populating a Set

You can add member lines manually, or use the Populate actions to fill the set with standard Business Central documents:

Action Adds
Customer-Facing Documents Sales quote, order confirmation, invoice, credit memo, pro forma invoice, draft invoice, shipment, return order confirmation, return receipt, blanket order, reminder, finance charge memo, customer statement
Service Documents Service quote, order, invoice, credit memo, shipment
Vendor-Facing Documents Purchase quote, order, blanket order, return shipment, check, remittance advices

Important: the Populate actions replace the current members — existing lines are deleted and the standard list is added.

The Visual Style Skill

The set's skill is a Markdown document describing the shared look: page setup, fonts, colors, header and footer design, stationery elements, and so on. You can create it two ways:

Learn It from an Existing Layout

  1. Design one report's layout the way you want (see The Visual Layout Editor), or pick a report that already has a good layout
  2. Select that member line and run Learn Skill from Layout
  3. The AI analyses the layout and stores its reusable visual style as the set's skill

Write or Edit It Directly

The Edit Skill action opens the Report Set Skill page, where the skill Markdown can be viewed and edited in a text editor. Use Save to store changes; closing with unsaved changes prompts for confirmation.

Applying the Skill

  • Apply Skill to Report (on a member line) — the AI restyles that one report's layout to match the skill. If the report has no layout yet, a new one is created.
  • Apply Skill to All Reports (on the card) — processes every member in turn, with a progress dialog. You are asked to confirm first, because each report is processed by the AI and the run can take a while.

During an apply run, the AI adjusts each layout's page setup, fonts, colors, headers, and footers to match the skill — while preserving the layout's data bindings.

Other member actions:

  • Edit Report — opens the member's layout in the layout designer (the layout must exist first)
  • Test Print — renders the member's layout as a test print

Shared Fonts and Images

A report set owns fonts and images that are copied onto every member report when the skill is applied:

Fonts

Open Fonts on the card:

  • Upload Font — upload a TrueType (.ttf) font. The font name is taken from the file name; quote names containing spaces when they are referenced in layouts (e.g. "My Font"). Font collections (.ttc) are not supported.
  • Delete Font — removes the font from the set and from every report that inherited it
  • Sync to Reports — re-copies all of the set's fonts and images onto every applied member report
  • Download — download the original font file

Images

Open Images on the card:

  • Upload Image — upload a JPEG (.jpg/.jpeg) or PNG (.png) image. The image name is taken from the file name and is how layouts reference it.
  • Delete Image, Sync to Reports, Download — as for fonts

On the individual report layouts, these assets appear as inherited fonts/images. A report's own font or image with the same name is never overwritten by the set — the copy is skipped and reported. Inherited assets must be managed on the set, not on the report.

Typical Workflow

  1. Create a report set and describe it (e.g. "ACME customer documents")
  2. Run Customer-Facing Documents to populate the members
  3. Upload your company font(s) and logo to the set
  4. Design one document (for example the sales invoice) in the layout editor until it looks right
  5. On that member line, run Learn Skill from Layout
  6. Review the skill with Edit Skill and adjust wording if needed
  7. Run Apply Skill to All Reports
  8. Test Print a few members and fine-tune individual layouts where needed

Prerequisites and Notes

  • Learning and applying skills uses the AI and therefore requires a configured AI provider (see Report Builder Agent)
  • Learn Skill from Layout requires the member to have an existing layout
  • Apply Skill requires the set to have a skill; otherwise you are told to use Learn Skill or Edit Skill first
  • Deleting a report set also deletes its members, fonts, and images (including inherited copies on the reports)
  • The report set skill is a different concept from the agent's skill library — the set skill describes one visual style; agent skills are general guidance for the AI assistant (see Report Builder Agent)
