Extension Management

Extension Management is the standard Business Central page for managing installed extensions. This page explains how to use it with SOD-generated extensions.

Accessing Extension Management

  1. Search for "Extension Management" in BC
  2. Or navigate via Settings > Extensions

Understanding Extensions

SOD Creates Extensions

When you publish from SOD:

  • A BC extension is created
  • It appears in Extension Management
  • Named per your Setup configuration

Multiple Extensions

You may see multiple SOD-related extensions:

  • Simple Object Designer (SOD itself)
  • Your customization extension
  • AL Compiler and Interpreter (dependency)
  • App 1 and App 2 (if Dual-App mode)

Automatic Updates

SOD extensions may update when:

  • You publish from SOD
  • Upload new .app file
  • Extension Management offers update

Old versions accumulate — and that is fine

Every publish from SOD creates a new version of your extension, and older versions stay listed in the extension/version list. This is expected.

  • The old versions are entirely inert and cause no harm.
  • Cleanup is optional. You may unpublish old versions manually if you prefer a tidy list.
  • Microsoft automatically removes old versions during the next major upgrade, so no manual action is required.

Allow HttpClient Requests

Simple Object Designer requires Allow HttpClient Requests to be enabled for its extension in Extension Management — it calls out over HTTPS to download symbols and to reach the compiler service.

If the setting is off, publishing from SOD can fail.

The setting is configured per environment and is not reliably consistent between sandbox and production — which is why publishing can work in one environment and fail in another with identical configuration. If you see that pattern, check this toggle first. See Publishing Failures.
