Key Features
Cloud Replicator provides a comprehensive set of features designed to make data replication from Business Central to Azure cloud services simple, reliable, and flexible.
Multiple Cloud Destinations
Azure Table Storage
Store your Business Central data in Azure Table Storage, Microsoft's highly scalable NoSQL key-value store. Ideal for:
- Large datasets with simple access patterns
- Cost-effective long-term storage
- Applications requiring high throughput
Azure Cosmos DB (NoSQL)
Replicate to Cosmos DB's Core (SQL) API for flexible document storage with:
- Global distribution capabilities
- Multiple consistency levels
- Rich query support via SQL-like syntax
Azure Cosmos DB (Table API)
Use Cosmos DB with Table API compatibility, offering:
- Premium features over standard Table Storage
- Low latency and high availability
- Familiar Table Storage programming model
Azure AI Search
Enable powerful search capabilities by indexing your data in Azure AI Search:
- Full-text search across all replicated fields
- Faceted navigation and filtering
- Cognitive enrichment possibilities
Table Mapping Configuration
Selective Replication
Choose exactly which tables to replicate. You don't need to replicate your entire database - select only the tables relevant to your use case.
Multi-Company Support
Configure company filters to replicate data from specific companies or all companies at once. Each company's data is partitioned in the destination for easy filtering.
Per-Table Options
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| Active | Enable or disable replication for each table |
| Destination | Override the default destination per table |
| Company Filter | Specify which companies to include |
| Per Day | Create time-series tables with daily aggregation |
| SystemId as RowKey | Use the record's SystemId GUID as the unique key |
| Replicate Deletions | Track and replicate deleted records |
Field Actions
Field actions provide granular control over how individual fields are replicated. By default, all fields are included - field actions configure exceptions.
Available Actions
| Action | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Default | Include the field as-is |
| Exclude | Skip the field entirely |
| Unfold | Expand related table data inline |
| Partition Key Format | Use field value in partition key |
| Unfold DimensionSet | Expand dimension set entries |
| Use Option Caption | Use option caption instead of numeric value |
| Add SystemId for related record | Add SystemId GUID for related records |
| Blob Field as Text | Convert blob fields to text |
| Blob as Base64 | Convert blob fields to Base64 encoding |
Data Transformation
Transform data during replication without modifying your Business Central data:
- Unfold related records to create denormalized datasets
- Expand dimension sets into individual fields
- Convert option values to human-readable captions
- Include SystemId GUIDs for related record tracking
Parallel Replication Engine
Multiple Worker Engines
Configure the number of parallel replication engines (default: 10) to process tables simultaneously. This dramatically reduces total replication time for large datasets.
Table Splitting
For very large tables with integer primary keys, enable table splitting to divide work across multiple engines. Each engine processes a range of records in parallel.
Background Processing
Replication runs in background sessions, allowing you to continue working in Business Central while data synchronizes.
Automation
Job Queue Integration
Schedule replication to run automatically using Business Central's built-in Job Queue. Configure codeunit 70319900 (Cloud Replicator JQ Runner EFQ) to run at your desired intervals, and optionally use the Job Queue Entry's Parameter String to limit a job to specific tables.
Incremental Replication
After the initial full replication, subsequent runs only process records modified since the last successful replication. The rollback time setting ensures no changes are missed.
Deletion Tracking
When enabled, Cloud Replicator monitors the Business Central Change Log to replicate record deletions to your cloud destination.
Monitoring and Logging
Real-Time Engine Status
The Engine Pulse List shows active replication engines in real-time:
- Current table and company being processed
- Records replicated count
- Replication rate (records per second)
- Engine status (Running, Stale, Stopped)
Comprehensive Replication Log
Every replication operation is logged with:
- Start and end times
- Records replicated and deleted
- Success or failure status
- Error messages for troubleshooting
Drill-Down Capabilities
Navigate from table mappings directly to related replication logs or running engines for quick access to status information.
Data Integrity Features
Retry Logic
Configurable retry settings handle transient failures:
- Connection Retry Count (default: 10 attempts)
- Connection Retry Delay (default: 1000ms between retries)
- Automatic handling of HTTP 429 (throttling) responses
Rollback Time
Configure an overlap period to ensure no records are missed during incremental replications, even if timestamps vary slightly.
Error Handling
Failed replications are logged with detailed error messages. You can retry failed tables or investigate issues using the replication log.
Security
Credential Management
All credentials (storage account keys, Cosmos DB keys, search API keys) are stored securely and masked in the user interface.
Partition Isolation
Data is partitioned by company name in the destination, providing logical separation between companies' data.
Character Sanitization
Table names, field names, and key values are automatically sanitized to ensure compatibility with cloud destination requirements.
