HTML Controls

Advanced Spreadsheets and Reporting uses a few control add-ins (HTML-based page controls) in its user interface. This guide explains what they are and what they do, so that you know what to expect and what not to.

Overview

There are two kinds of control add-ins in the app:

  • Logo hosts: three small add-ins that only render logo images on the menu and licensing pages
  • Spreadsheet add-ins: the three add-ins that make up the spreadsheet editor and its dialogs

None of them require any registration, configuration or customization by the user.

Logo Hosts

Three add-ins do nothing more than display an image:

Add-in Where it appears Shows
AFR HTMLControl Hgd Top of the Advanced Spreadsheets and Reporting menu page The product logo
AFR HTMLControl 2 Hgd Bottom of the menu page The Hougaard logo
HTMLControl Hgd Licensing pages (About Advanced Spreadsheets and Reporting) The product logo

They have no interactive elements, no menu buttons, and no settings. The menu page's links are ordinary page fields, not part of the HTML control. The logos cannot be replaced or restyled.

Spreadsheet Add-ins

The actual visualization in the app is delivered by the spreadsheet add-ins:

Add-in Purpose
BCSpreadsheet Hgd The spreadsheet grid used by the Spreadsheet editor, the preview page and the Spreadsheet Role Center part
BCColorPicker Hgd The color picker used when formatting cells
BCTemplateGallery Hgd The gallery used by Insert Template to browse spreadsheet templates

For how to use these, see the spreadsheet documentation, starting with the editor basics.

Dashboards

There is no separate "dashboard view" feature built on HTML controls. Dashboards are built with the spreadsheet engine:

  • Spreadsheets with KPI Card and Chart regions
  • Slicer dashboards generated by Open as Spreadsheet on a financial report or G/L budget
  • The Spreadsheet Role Center, which shows a chosen spreadsheet on the role center

See Building KPI-style Financial Reports for the financial-report side of this.

Troubleshooting

Logo Not Displaying

If a logo image is missing on the menu or licensing page:

  • Refresh the browser page
  • Clear the browser cache; the image is shipped inside the app and needs no network access

Spreadsheet Grid Not Displaying

If the spreadsheet editor shows an empty area:

  • Refresh the browser page
  • Make sure the browser is a version supported by Business Central
  • Check the browser's developer console for blocked scripts (for example by a corporate proxy)
